Emeritus Professor Oliver FW James, F.Med.Sci.
Professor James is a retired hepatologist who has published over 300 peer reviewed papers on aspects of liver disease. He is currently Senior Medical Advisor to the Penrose Inquiry, a Public Inquiry into the acquisition of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis from blood products in the 1980’s in the UK. He is a former senior vice president, Royal College of Physicians (UK) and president, British Association for Study of the Liver. Until 2007 he was provost of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Professor James was a founder member of the European Research Advisory Board (ERAB) in 2003, and was the first chairman of the ERAB Advisory Board (2003 – 2006), served as an honorary member of the ERAB Board of Directors (2007 – 2009) and was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors in November 2009. He resigned from the Board in 2015.
